AboutMe

Surviving as a Refugee ...
The fight for freedom comes at a price, and for some, that price never ends. Today I am 32. It has been 7 years since I have seen my family, and decades since I have been free. I was born into a war. My home in Afghanistan has been under attack for over 20 years, a reality very few people truly understand. At the age of 9, my family fled the country in the dead of night, hunted by extremest looking to execute my father. For 4 years we hid in Iran, unable to live a normal life. By the time I was 13, my family was forced to return to Afghanistan in-spite of the danger. Determined to save both my family and my country, I dedicated my life to humanitarian outreach in Afghanistan. Using my language skills to bridge the gap between foreign agencies and local organizations looking to help Afghanistan survive the chaos. Today, I am still a survivor, however, I am also a refugee. For the past 7 years, I have remained trapped in an extremely suspended situation, bound to a refugee camp with 400 others. Not permitted to work, to study, to have local travel moreover, not able to marry legally/officially. We are not a family, we are in surviving in silence, trapped in a country that does not want us and unable to safely return from where we came. Together we are survivors, trapped in our fight for survival and these are our stories...
